Safety in Angola

Tips when travelling

Angola is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:

Always carry ID with you or you could receive a large on-the-spot fine.

Do not walk around in Luanda, especially alone or after dark, due to high crime.

Avoid wearing expensive jewellery or using your phone in public as it could attract criminals.

Keep car doors locked and windows closed in traffic to prevent theft from your vehicle.

Only use pre-booked taxis via apps like Yango or Heetch and check the driver's details before getting in.

Bonus tips:

Take a certified copy of your passport photo page and keep it separate from your original.

Do not photograph government buildings or you risk having your camera confiscated.
