Entry requirements for Brunei

What British travellers need to know

You can enter Brunei as a visitor for up to 90 days without a visa on a British citizen passport.

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date and must not be damaged or missing pages.

You must submit an e-arrival declaration form before you travel.

You must complete a Health Declaration Form before or upon arrival.

Make sure you get your passport stamped when you enter Brunei.

Good to know:

If you are arriving from a country with a yellow fever transmission risk, you must have a certificate proving your vaccination.

You must declare any goods that may be prohibited or subject to tax or duty, and you can do this using the Customs.BN app or on arrival.

Safety in Brunei

Tips when travelling

Brunei is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:

The sale of alcohol and tobacco is illegal, though non-Muslims over 17 may import a limited amount of alcohol for private consumption if declared on arrival.

It is against the law to be seen eating, drinking, or smoking in public during the fasting hours of the holy month of Ramadan.

Dress modestly and do not wear shorts in government and public buildings such as health centres.

Avoid leaving belongings in unattended vehicles and take care of your passport as petty crime, like theft, does occur.

Public displays of affection may cause offence, and adultery or private closeness between an unmarried man and woman is illegal if one is Muslim.

Bonus tips:

When hiking, use recognised guides, stay on paths, and carry food, water, closed-toe shoes, a whistle, and a torch as it's easy to get lost.

Pay attention to signs warning of saltwater crocodiles near rivers and beaches and stay away from the water's edge.
