Travel warning

There is heavy fighting, including airstrikes and artillery, near the border with Thailand, making that whole area risky, and unexploded weapons like landmines are a real danger there.

Entry requirements for Cambodia

What British travellers need to know

You must have a visa to enter Cambodia as a visitor.

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date and be undamaged.

A tourist visa is valid for 30 days from the date you enter Cambodia.

Apply for an e-visa at least 4 days in advance or get a visa on arrival at airports or land borders.

You must complete and submit a free electronic Arrival Card within 7 days before arriving by air at the main international airports.

Good to know:

You must provide a yellow fever vaccination certificate if arriving from a country listed as a transmission risk.

If you lose your departure form, contact immigration officials before leaving the country to make alternative arrangements.

Safety in Cambodia

Tips when travelling

Cambodia is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:

Be extremely vigilant against bag snatchings by thieves on motorbikes, especially in tourist areas, and carry bags on the side away from the road.

Do not stray off main routes in rural areas or pick up metal objects due to the risk of landmines and unexploded weapons.

Be wary of drink spiking and methanol poisoning in alcoholic drinks, and never leave your drink unattended.

Always wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle to avoid on-the-spot fines and potential insurance issues.

Dress modestly by covering your shoulders and wearing skirts or shorts below the knee to ensure entry to religious sites like Angkor Wat.

Bonus tips:

When swimming or doing water activities, beware of strong currents and potentially fatal jellyfish stings, especially during the rainy season.

Avoid getting into vehicles with strangers and be cautious of quick friendships with invitations to private places to reduce the risk of sexual assault or scams.

Health in Cambodia

Make sure you have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical expenses, including repatriation. Check that your insurance covers all planned activities. You should also be aware that medical facilities in Cambodia are limited, especially outside of major cities.

No vaccinations required

It's recommended to consult your doctor or travel clinic well in advance of your trip to discuss necessary vaccinations and health precautions. Drink only bottled or purified water. Be cautious of mosquito bites, particularly during the rainy season. Avoid eating raw or undercooked foods from street vendors. If you need medical assistance, ask your hotel to recommend a reputable clinic or hospital.

Cards & payments

Credit and debit card acceptance is increasing in Cambodia, particularly in hotels, restaurants, and larger shops in tourist areas. However, cash is still preferred for smaller transactions and in local markets.
