Entry requirements for Croatia
What British travellers need to know
Your passport must be less than 10 years old on the day you arrive and must be valid for at least 3 months after you plan to leave the Schengen area.
You can travel to Croatia without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism, visiting, or short-term study.
Be prepared to show proof of accommodation, such as a hotel booking, and proof of travel insurance at border control.
You may also need to show a return or onward ticket and prove you have enough money for your stay.
On your first visit, you may need to register your biometric details like fingerprints and a photo at a special booth under the new Entry/Exit System.
Good to know:
Your accommodation provider must register your arrival with the police within 48 hours, though hotels normally handle this.
Declare cash or travellers cheques worth 10,000 euros or more when entering Croatia to avoid seizure.
Safety in Croatia
Tips when travelling
Croatia is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:
You can be fined on the spot in town centres for drinking alcohol in public, walking shirtless or in swimwear, or climbing on monuments.
Pickpockets operate in tourist areas, so avoid carrying large sums of cash and do not leave valuables unattended.
From 1 June to 31 October, it is illegal to light outdoor fires or barbecues except in designated areas to avoid starting wildfires.
There have been reports of sexual assaults in taxis, so consider taking a photo of the taxi's interior number plate and sharing your ride status or destination with someone.
If you travel outside tourist resorts to certain areas, be aware of unexploded mines and do not walk on uncultivated land or step off marked paths.
Bonus tips:
Driving with alcohol in your blood above 0.05% is a serious offence that can result in a fine, loss of licence, or a prison sentence.
If you are hiking in the mountains, get expert advice from local guides as weather can change quickly and there is a risk of getting lost on unmarked paths.

Generally, Croatia has good standards of healthcare. Make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccinations. Drink bottled water to avoid stomach upsets. Be aware of tick-borne diseases if visiting forested areas.
