Safety in Curaçao

Tips when travelling

Curaçao is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:

Always carry a copy of the photo page of your passport with you.

Avoid isolated areas, including beaches, after dark.

Keep your valuables secure and out of sight to prevent petty theft.

Be on the lookout for bag snatchers in tourist areas.

When taking a taxi, check that it is registered (number plates start with TX) and agree the price before the ride.

Bonus tips:

Do not discuss or agree to carry a package for anyone due to the risk of drug smuggling.

Never leave your luggage unattended when departing the country.

You can use a UK photocard driving licence to drive in Curaçao.
