Safety in Denmark

Tips for British travellers

Denmark is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:

Pickpockets and bag-snatchers operate in crowded tourist areas, particularly in Copenhagen.

Keep a close eye on your belongings on public transport and in places like hotels, cafes, and restaurants.

Be extra careful in areas like Christiania and Nørrebro, especially late at night.

It is illegal to wear clothing that hides your face in public, which can result in a fine of around 1000 krone.

Cyclists and pedestrians often have the right of way, so always check cycle lanes and crossings carefully.

Bonus tips:

If you hire an electric scooter, do not use it under the influence of alcohol as you could be prosecuted for drink-driving.

In Copenhagen, thieves are known to operate at the central station, Strøget, Nyhavn, and inside the airport.

It may not cover all health costs, repatriation, or other expenses. Make sure you have adequate travel insurance for your trip.
