Entry requirements for Denmark
What British travellers need to know
You can travel without a visa to Denmark for up to 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism.
Your passport must have a 'date of issue' less than 10 years before you arrive and an 'expiry date' at least 3 months after you plan to leave the Schengen area.
If the Entry-Exit System (EES) is not yet implemented at your entry point, make sure your passport is stamped on entry and exit to prove your stay is within the 90-day limit.
At border control, you may need to show a return or onward ticket and prove you have enough money for your stay.
You may need to register biometric details like fingerprints and a photo on your first entry into the Schengen area under the new Entry/Exit System (EES).
Good to know:
You cannot take meat, milk or products containing them into Denmark, with some exceptions like powdered baby milk.
Declare cash or travellers cheques if the value is 10,000 euros or more when entering.
Safety in Denmark
Tips when travelling
Denmark is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:
Pickpockets and bag-snatchers operate in crowded tourist areas like Copenhagen's main shopping street and central station.
Thieves use distraction techniques, particularly on crowded public transport and in places like hotel lobbies and cafes.
It is illegal to wear clothing that conceals your face in a public place, and you could face a fine.
Even small quantities of illegal drugs like cannabis are strictly prohibited and carry severe penalties including long jail sentences.
If you hire and use an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol, you could be prosecuted for drink-driving and fined.
Bonus tips:
Cyclists often have the right of way, so always check cycle lanes before turning right.
Take extra care in areas like Christiania and Nørrebro late at night due to instances of gang violence.

Health in Denmark
If you’re a UK resident, remember to bring your UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) or European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with you. These cards allow you to access state-provided healthcare in Denmark on the same basis as a Danish citizen. However, GHIC/EHIC is not a substitute for travel insurance. It may not cover all health costs, repatriation, or other expenses. Make sure you have adequate travel insurance for your trip.
Generally, Denmark has high standards of public health. There are no specific vaccinations required for entry. Tap water is safe to drink throughout Denmark. If you need medical assistance, dial 112 for emergencies.
