What British travellers need to know

Your passport must have an expiry date at least 6 months after you arrive in Fiji.

You do not need a visa for visits of up to 4 months.

At border control, you must show an onward or return ticket.

Tips when travelling

Fiji is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:

Be careful of your belongings in cities and tourist areas to avoid petty theft.

Take care when walking at night, especially if you are a woman travelling alone.

Be aware of alcoholic drinks containing methanol, which can cause serious illness.

Cover your shoulders and knees in rural villages and during kava ceremonies, as nudity is illegal.

Only swim from beaches with lifeguards and follow the flag warning system due to dangerous rip tides.

Bonus tips:

Only use licensed taxis and minibuses which have a yellow registration plate.

Always check a dive operator's credentials and ensure safety equipment is in good condition.
