Entry requirements for Guam

What British travellers need to know

You must have a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) or a US visa to enter the United States.

Your passport must be valid for the length of your planned stay in the US.

If transiting through another country to reach the US, check that country's requirements as many require at least six months' passport validity.

You are not eligible for an ESTA if you have been arrested, have a criminal record, have been refused admission or deported from the US, or have previously overstayed under an ESTA.

All travellers aged 17 and under must have a valid visa or ESTA and be able to provide evidence about the purpose, location, and length of their visit if asked.

Good to know:

Anyone aged 17 and under travelling alone, with one parent, or without a parent or guardian should carry a notarised letter of consent, preferably in English.

You must declare any goods that may be prohibited or subject to tax or duty upon entry.

Safety in Guam

Tips when travelling

Guam is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:

Always carry your passport with you, as it is required to show you have permission to be in the US.

Do not leave passports in rental cars, especially in the boot, as gangs may target tourist vehicles.

Avoid walking through quieter areas alone, particularly at night, due to the risk of violent crime.

Be aware that the legal age for buying and drinking alcohol is 21 across the entire country.

Illegal drugs, including cannabis, carry severe penalties like long jail sentences and heavy fines, even for possession.

Bonus tips:

When renting a car, check the hire company's specific requirements, which may include needing an international driving permit and a higher minimum age.

In popular tourist areas, be cautious of petrol stations that do not display fuel prices, as they often charge significantly more.

No vaccinations required

Consult your doctor or a travel clinic well in advance of your trip to discuss necessary vaccinations and health precautions. Dengue fever can occur. Protect yourself from mosquito bites by using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and trousers, and staying in accommodations with air conditioning or mosquito nets. Tap water is generally considered safe to drink, but bottled water is readily available and may be preferred. Food safety standards are generally high.
