Entry requirements for Jamaica

What British travellers need to know

You do not need a visa to visit Jamaica and will usually be granted entry for up to 90 days, with the departure date stamped in your passport.

Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay and have two blank pages for entry and exit stamps.

You must complete the Immigration and Custom Form C5 online where possible before you arrive in Jamaica.

If you want to extend your stay beyond the permitted 90 days, you must apply to the Jamaican Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency.

You must have a yellow fever vaccination certificate if you are arriving from a country listed as a transmission risk.

Good to know:

Declare cash or travellers cheques if the value is $10,000 US dollars or more on your C5 form.

It is illegal to bring meat and dairy products into Jamaica, as they will be destroyed if found.

Safety in Jamaica

Tips when travelling

Jamaica is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:

Do not walk in isolated areas or deserted beaches, even during the day.

Be careful when withdrawing money from ATMs and avoid using them at night.

Do not display valuables, leave them in your car, or wear expensive jewellery.

Avoid walking at night and be wary of people who approach you.

Use hotel safes for your valuables, including your passport, and lock windows and doors.

Bonus tips:

Drink-driving is a serious offence which may result in a fine and possible imprisonment.

It is illegal to smoke marijuana and penalties apply for all drug offences.

Health in Jamaica

While Jamaica doesn't have a reciprocal healthcare agreement with the UK, it's crucial to have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical expenses, including emergency treatment and repatriation. Make sure your policy covers the activities you plan to participate in, such as water sports.

No vaccinations required

It is recommended to consult your GP or a travel health clinic for the most up-to-date advice on vaccinations and health precautions for Jamaica. Dengue fever, chikungunya and zika virus are risks, so take mosquito bite prevention measures. Ensure you have adequate travel insurance.
