Tips for British travellers

Oman is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:

Always carry a copy of your passport photo page and keep the original safe as you must have ID.

Do not eat, drink, smoke, or chew gum in public during the daytime throughout the holy month of Ramadan.

It is illegal to drink alcohol in public, be drunk in public, or to drink and drive.

You must dress modestly in public, covering arms and legs below the knee, and only wear beachwear on tourist beaches or at pools.

Do not photograph people without their permission and avoid photographing government or military buildings.

Bonus tips:

It is illegal to import or use e-cigarettes or vape products in Oman.

Unmarried couples are not allowed to share a hotel room or live together.
