Safety in Pakistan

Tips when travelling

Pakistan is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:

Always carry photo ID as you may be detained until you can show it.

Drinking alcohol in public or being drunk is illegal and can lead to detention.

Dress modestly, covering your shoulders and legs, and women should cover their heads at holy sites and in rural areas.

Do not eat, drink, smoke, or chew gum in public during the daytime in Ramadan.

Be cautious in crowded areas to guard against street crime and credit card fraud.

Bonus tips:

Avoid taking photos of people without permission and never take photos at military sites, airports, or infrastructure.

Be patient and show tolerance, especially during Ramadan when driving can be unpredictable at dusk.

Drink bottled water, and be cautious about food hygiene. Check the NHS website or consult with your GP for up-to-date health advice before travelling.
