Entry requirements for Singapore

What British travellers need to know

Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date in Singapore.

You do not need a visa for a tourist visit, with permitted stays typically ranging from 30 to 90 days.

You must complete an electronic SG Arrival Card online in the three days before your arrival.

Overstaying your permitted period can result in severe penalties including fines, imprisonment, or deportation.

You may be screened for drugs upon arrival, and consumption in another country is still a criminal offence in Singapore.

Good to know:

If you have visited a country with a yellow fever risk in the last six days, you must present a valid vaccination certificate upon entry or face quarantine.

Declare all goods at customs as there are strict rules on prohibited items like vaporisers, certain tobacco products, and replica guns.

Safety in Singapore

Tips when travelling

Singapore is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:

You must be 21 or over to purchase, use, own, sell or supply tobacco products in Singapore.

Smoking is banned at all public parks, all beaches and along certain waterways, so make sure you smoke in designated areas only.

Vapes and e-cigarettes are banned in Singapore, and it is illegal to bring them into the country, including for personal use.

It is illegal to drink alcohol in a public place, besides restaurants, bars and licensed entertainment venues, between 10:30pm and 7am.

Avoid any action that could be interpreted as molestation, as penalties include fines, imprisonment and caning.

Bonus tips:

Leave valuables in a hotel safe if possible and do not leave bags unattended.

Police may give you an on-the-spot fine for littering.

Health in Singapore

While the UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) are not applicable in Singapore, it's essential to have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical expenses, including hospital stays and repatriation. Ensure your insurance policy covers any pre-existing conditions.

No vaccinations required

Singapore has excellent healthcare facilities, but medical treatment can be expensive. No specific vaccinations are required for entry, but it is recommended to be up-to-date on routine vaccinations. Consider vaccinations for Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid and Japanese Encephalitis. Dengue fever is present, so take precautions against mosquito bites. Tap water is generally safe to drink, though bottled water is readily available.
