Safety in Trinidad and Tobago

Tips when travelling

Trinidad and Tobago is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:

Avoid walking or hiking alone, especially on deserted beaches, in isolated areas, or at night.

Do not wear headphones when out and about, and always be alert to your surroundings.

Avoid displaying jewellery or valuable items in public, especially at crowded events like Carnival.

Do not accept drinks from anyone you do not know and never leave your drink unattended.

Never enter private property without permission as you could face a large fine or imprisonment.

Bonus tips:

Make sure your accommodation, especially if it's a villa in an isolated area, has good security like external lighting and overnight guards.

Be cautious about what you post online as criminals are increasingly monitoring social media platforms.
