The 10 Best Beaches in the Caribbean

We named this site AtoBeach for a reason, so consider this list our home turf. The Caribbean has thousands of beaches, and ranking them is a little unfair: the difference between the tenth best and the hundredth is smaller than you would think. But these ten are the ones that genuinely stop people mid-sentence when they walk onto them. For each one we cover what makes it special and the island guide to read if it wins you over.
1. Grace Bay, Turks and Caicos
The reigning champion of world beach rankings, and deservedly so. Twelve miles of powder-white sand on Providenciales, protected by a barrier reef that keeps the water calm, shallow, and a shade of blue that does not look real. There is no seaweed problem, no rocks, no surprises. It is the beach your screensaver has been promising you. See our Turks and Caicos guide.
2. Trunk Bay, St. John, US Virgin Islands
The most photographed beach in the Virgin Islands sits inside a national park, which is why it still looks untouched. Trunk Bay's party trick is its underwater snorkel trail, with plaques on the seabed guiding you around the reef. Arrive early; cruise crowds appear by late morning. Our US Virgin Islands guide covers getting to St. John by ferry.
3. Eagle Beach, Aruba
Wide, white, and famously home to two wind-bent fofoti trees that might be the most photographed trees in the Caribbean. Eagle Beach backs onto low-rise hotels rather than towers, so it never feels crowded, and the sunsets are ridiculous. It is a short ride from Oranjestad; see our Aruba guide.
4. Anse Chastanet, Saint Lucia
Dark golden volcanic sand, the Pitons on the horizon, and a reef that starts a few fin-kicks from shore with some of the best snorkeling in the eastern Caribbean. Anse Chastanet feels wilder than the classic postcard beaches, which is exactly its appeal. Pair it with a stop at nearby Sugar Beach, which sits directly between the Pitons. Both are in our Saint Lucia travel guide.
5. White Bay, Jost Van Dyke, British Virgin Islands
A perfect crescent of sand on an island with barely 300 residents, famous for the beach bars lining it, including the Soggy Dollar, named for the sailors who swim ashore to pay. Come by ferry from Tortola or by boat, order a Painkiller, and cancel your afternoon plans. More in our British Virgin Islands guide.
6. Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman
A long, gently curving stretch of coral sand with water so clear the snorkelers look like they are floating in air. It is public along its entire length, superbly maintained, and minutes from George Town. Families rate it the easiest great beach in the Caribbean. See our Cayman Islands guide.
7. Pink Sands Beach, Harbour Island, Bahamas
Three miles of sand with a genuine pink blush, created by crushed coral and the shells of microscopic sea creatures. The colour is strongest at sunrise and sunset, and the water stays swimmable and calm thanks to an offshore reef. Getting there via fast ferry from North Eleuthera is part of the adventure. Our Bahamas guide explains the route.
8. Seven Mile Beach, Negril, Jamaica
Jamaica's most famous beach earns its reputation on atmosphere. Reggae drifting from beach bars, vendors selling fresh fruit, cliff divers at Rick's Café at the southern end, and a sunset crowd that applauds. It is livelier than the other beaches on this list, and that is the point. Details in our Jamaica guide.
9. Bávaro Beach, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
The beach that built the Caribbean's biggest resort destination: miles of coconut palms leaning over white sand and warm, swimmable water. Even with the resorts of Punta Cana behind it, the sheer length means you can always walk to a quiet stretch. See our Dominican Republic guide.
10. Crane Beach, Barbados
A pink-tinged beach at the base of coral cliffs on Barbados's southeast coast, with Atlantic rollers that make it one of the best boogie-boarding beaches in the region. The clifftop view from above is one of the great Caribbean panoramas. Our Barbados guide covers it alongside the calmer west coast.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best beach in the Caribbean overall?
Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos is the safest answer: consistently calm, clean, and spectacular. For something less manicured, Anse Chastanet in Saint Lucia is our pick.
Which beaches are best for swimming with kids?
Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman and Eagle Beach in Aruba. Both are calm, shallow, and have facilities close by.
Do I need to pay to use these beaches?
Beaches in the Caribbean are public in almost every country on this list. Some, like Trunk Bay, sit inside parks with a small entry fee.
