Entry requirements for Lithuania
Your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before you arrive in Lithuania.
Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave the Schengen area.
You can stay in Lithuania for up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa for tourism.
You must be prepared to show proof of accommodation, travel insurance, a return ticket, and sufficient funds for your stay at border control.
Be prepared to register your biometric details like fingerprints and a photo at the border under the new Entry/Exit System for short stays.
Good to know:
If entering from Belarus, only the Medininkai-Kamenny Log crossing point is open, and you must cross by private vehicle, not scheduled bus.
You cannot bring meat, milk, or products containing them into Lithuania, with exceptions for baby food and special medical foods.
Safety in Lithuania
Lithuania is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:
Petty crime like pickpocketing is common, especially on public transport and in busy locations.
Do not leave your drinks unattended or accept drinks from strangers in bars and clubs due to instances of drink spiking.
Be cautious when walking alone at night and avoid unlit streets and parks.
Never leave coats or handbags unattended in bars, pubs, and clubs.
Drink-driving is a serious offence with stricter legal limits than the UK and can lead to heavy fines and imprisonment.
Bonus tips:
Use a recognised taxi app or phone for a registered, metered taxi to avoid fare disputes.
If you have a paper driving licence, you may need to update it to a photocard or get an International Driving Permit before driving.
