Entry requirements for Montenegro
You can visit Montenegro without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
Your passport must have been issued less than 10 years ago and be valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure date.
All visitors must register with the local tourism office or police within 24 hours of arrival.
Make sure your passport is stamped on entry and exit to prove the length of your stay.
Visits to other EU or Schengen countries do not count towards your 90-day visa-free limit in Montenegro.
Good to know:
You must declare cash or travellers cheques if the value is 10,000 euros or more when you enter.
You cannot take meat, milk or products containing them into Montenegro, with limited exceptions.
Safety in Montenegro
Montenegro is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:
Carry a passport or photocard licence, as police may fine you without ID.
Keep bags attended and valuables in a hotel safe, especially at beaches and tourist spots.
Use ATMs inside banks where possible and keep your card in sight when paying.
Follow beach warning signs and lifeguard instructions, and swim in designated areas.
Use licensed taxis and agree the fare or price per kilometre before travelling.

Health in Montenegro
As a UK resident, your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) will be valid in Montenegro for medically necessary healthcare. However, it is still highly recommended to obtain comprehensive travel insurance to cover any medical expenses that EHIC/GHIC may not, including repatriation costs, ambulance fees, or treatment at private facilities.
No vaccinations required
Generally, Montenegro is considered a safe destination regarding health. Tap water is generally safe to drink, but bottled water is readily available. No specific vaccinations are required for entry, but it's always a good idea to be up-to-date on routine vaccinations. Be aware of tick-borne encephalitis and Lyme disease if hiking in forested areas. Insect repellent is recommended, especially during warmer months.
