Safety in Indonesia
Indonesia is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:
Keep drinks in sight, avoid drinks from strangers, and seek urgent help for poisoning signs.
Use registered taxis or app drivers, verify the driver, and share your journey.
Conceal bags in busy areas, carry essentials only, and keep doors locked in cars.
Carry your passport or stay permit at all times.
Never carry or use drugs, including cannabis, CBD, THC, oils or edibles.

Health in Indonesia
Make sure you have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical expenses, including emergency evacuation. Medical facilities in Indonesia can vary in quality, and private hospitals in major cities are generally better equipped. Ensure your insurance covers treatment in these facilities.
No vaccinations required
Consult your doctor or a travel clinic well in advance of your trip to discuss necessary vaccinations and health precautions. Dengue fever and malaria are risks in some areas, so take mosquito bite prevention measures. Tap water is not safe to drink; use bottled water for drinking and brushing your teeth.

Tipping in Indonesia
Tipping is not as widespread or expected in Indonesia as it is in some Western countries, but it is becoming more common, especially in tourist areas and for good service.
Restaurant
5-10% for good service, or round up the bill. Some restaurants may already include a service charge (usually 10%) on the bill, so check before tipping.

Round up the bill or leave a small tip (e.g., IDR 5,000 - 10,000) for good service.
Taxi
Round up the fare to the nearest IDR 5,000 or 10,000. For longer rides or excellent service, you can add a bit more.
